Certified nurse assistant jobs are known as one of the easiest and fastest way to get into the patient care field. Even though nursing assistant employees do not have the glorified title or high salary they are deserving of, in most facilities they are expected to provide a majority of the patient care. Simple yet highly important functions such as eating, bathing, dressing, and especially moving are difficult for most hospitalized patients. In order for a patient to recover quickly and fully, a certain level of comfort must be established. The compassion and understanding of caregivers is also highly important for a patient on the road to recovery. The level of care that is needed is highly dependent of a patient’s medical condition. Some patients need more assistance than others because they are recovering from an illness, accident, surgery, or procedure.

A majority of the patients do whatever it takes in order to gain their independence back as soon as possible which means they will require less assistance as time passes and healing begins. You will however, encounter some patients that will need long term and frequent assistance in all areas. Level of care will vary depending on patients, departments, and facilities. For instance, a hospital nurse assistant job will very from a nursing home position. Each department in a hospital will also vary because each area handles a different type of medical care. For example, a CNA that works in the labor and delivery department is going to encounter different job requirements than one that is working in the emergency room.

When searching for a nurse’s assistant job you should pay very close attention to the job description to ensure that you are capable and qualified to handle the requirements of each specific position. Most employers will not hire a nurse assistant you can show proof of your CNA certification. CNA certification requirements are different in each state. Some hospital facilities will not hire inexperienced candidates because there really is very little time for training in the fast paced medical field. If you have very little clinical experience, you may want to consider applying for a nursing home position first because most nursing homes have a slower paced work environment. You won’t encounter as many emergency medical situations but you will have the opportunity to learn and absorb the data as you go without feeling overwhelmed or rushed. Mistakes are less likely to happen in a slower paced environment which is something all new recruits can benefit from.

Nurse assistant jobs are usually listed as CNA positions in newspapers and online job listings. The minimum requirement for a nurse assistant job is the completion of an accredited training program and passing of the certification examination. CNA certification exams cannot be attempted without the minimum training requirements designated by each state. Certified nurse assistant jobs are not to be mistaken with nurse practitioner physician assistant jobs. The two require a completely different path in training and education. Certification is also completely different and the job requirements are much more involved for nurse practitioners. In most clinical settings, nurse practitioners are able to treat patients for minor illnesses and non-emergency medical issues which is something a nurse assistant or registered nurse is unable to do under any circumstance.

Nurse’s assistant jobs include basic patient care tasks such as vital taking and recording, nutritional and hygiene needs, mobility, and stocking of patient rooms. The goal of all patient caretakers is to provide assistance and support so each patient can rehabilitate and recover fully from an illness, surgery, accident, or in a long term assisted living setting. Hospital assistant nursing jobs are very different from nursing home in that hospital patients usually go home after a stay. Nursing home and home care patients require a different set of communication skills because you will see that patient over and over again. Many times, relationships and friendships are formed in long term care scenarios because of the constant contact with the patients. It is highly important to always remain professional even if you have established a close relationship with a patient and family members. Patients want to feel cared for and in many cases, are very appreciative of the help and assistance in gaining back their independence.

When you are applying for CNA positions in your area, always keep in mind that there are more jobs than candidates to go around. Some job descriptions will specify exactly what you will be responsible for completing. Job descriptions that are specific and detailed can better help you decide if a job is right for you. Vague or incomplete job descriptions usually lead to jobs that are overwhelming and too demanding because things are adding on to your task list as the shift progresses. It is important to understand the limitations of a CNA position and to keep patient care in focus no matter how difficult the situation may be.
